I work intuitively and internally from an emotion that resonates within. Painting for me is deeply personal visual language, the work I produce has grown primarily from an internal enquiry responding to the ideas of mythology, fairy tale and inner child. I aim to find the balance between what is physical and nonphysical, human and spiritual figures. My work is predominantly figurative and revolves around the subjects of femininity, relationships and the purity and power of the feminine.
I am constantly trying to find the balance between fine detail and free loose mark making through various mediums. Texture and pattern have been explored throughout my paintings, in the form of printing. By building up layers, I hope to achieve a certain depth and quality in my work. I paint in layers building up, rubbing off and sanding down. to find the harmony between fine detail and negative space. Negative space has become an important aspect in my work also, very often-negative space is just as important to our understanding of form itself. I would like my paintings to act as a reflective space where the viewer can make their own connections and form their own interpretations.
Through this visual language, painting for me is a form of self- discovery and realisation that consequently reveals truths from my sub consciousness. My work evolves in its own time, it needs time to breathe, reflect and evaluate. I always work instinctively and spontaneously, exploring an inner world in a symbolic way, which remains inaccessible to the viewer.
